Nelson Public library, also known as the Elma Turner Library, is one of the oldest in New Zealand and has provided the longest continuous service to the public in New Zealand.
The library was named after Elma Turner, a local educator and politician. In 1983 she was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The library offers a myriad of services including books, e-books, magazines, newspapers (over 2500 newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries), movies, documentaries, CDs, computer classes and even sewing machines.
Kanopy is the library’s free streaming service just like Netflix. You can find movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films, educational videos and more using this service.

Rosamund Feeney, Community Programmes Coordinator, will tell us all about how to download an audiobook, access movies, take a computer class and even use a sewing machine, all free of charge.
